For those who adore both the rich heritage of Porto’s port wine and the scenic charm of rooftop bars, then I got you! I have combined the best of these worlds and here you will find three fascinating port houses, either boasting breathtaking views or conveniently close to them. So cheers to discovering and savouring the world’s most spirited wine amidst the stunning views of this historic city
Porto Cruz (and Sandeman)
Porto Cruz is a port house AND has a rooftop bar, known as Terrace Lounge 360. Not only can you enjoy port tasting on the terrace but they offer port and chocolate pairings. Dreams really do come true! This rooftop bar also happened to be one of my personal favourites and most frequented in Porto. Read more here.

Port Cruz is in good company as next door the famous Sandeman Port House resides. Sandeman brings fun and flare through a unique theatrical port tour. The guide is dressed in the iconic cape and hat and you are whisked around the cellar tour with 3 generous ports to taste while you are entertained with stories. Port House hopping at it’s finest.

Bello Rooftop Bar & Ferreira Caves
‘Bello’, the rooftop bar and restaurant at the Rebello Hotel, not only has sweeping views over the Douro river but it is just a 3 minute walk to the famous Ferreira caves. So you can stumble from one to the other! Read more about the rooftop here.

Ferreira caves was the first port house I chose this port house not least for its location to Bello (as they are further down the river) but to hear inspirational tales of the first woman in port in 1844. As a family run business, this port house provides a glimpse into the remarkable journey of Antonia Ferreira, who, as a widow at 33, became a prominent figure in the industry.

Grahams Port House & Vinum Terrace
Slightly further afield from the Vila Nova de Gaia area is Grahams. A port house and stunning terrace rolled into one, though separately owned. (Opt for an Uber ride rather than navigating the precarious pathways or lack of!) Once arrived, you’ll sense a distinct departure from the urban bustle but don’t let that fool you – I found this a more formal experience.

Tastings take place in or outside depending on the weather. If you made it this far would be a shame not to stay for a terrace lunch and soak in the views. Read more here.

Of course you can just enjoy the charm of the city from the rooftop bars in Porto. When the sun scorches outside, the prospect of descending into dim cellars may not be as enticing. So in a weird way I was grateful for temperamental weather! Click here for 11 best rooftop bars in Porto.

Enjoy! Oh and don’t forget port is often 20% ABV! 🍷
