Does the magic of Mallorca really need a hotel with a rooftop, or is staying on this stunning Spanish island special enough? I’ve visited Mallorca a few times, but on my last two trips I elevated my stay by choosing hotels with rooftops.
Below are my honest, first-hand reviews of two rooftop hotels I’ve stayed at. I cover what the rooms were really like, whether the service delivered, and – most importantly – if the rooftop was actually worth choosing the hotel for. I hope these reviews help you decide if one of these hotels is right for you.

Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel Port de Sóller Review

⭐ Quick verdict
Best for: Boho lovers, quiet restorative retreat vibes, sun seekers and scenery lovers
Not ideal if: You need twin beds, want to party or like fast service
Rooftop value: Amazing
Who this hotel is for: Couples, solo travellers, yogis
Overall feel: 60s colourful quirky décor merged with hippy beach club energy
🛏 Room Details
Type: Bayside Plus
Size: Small – ideal for one, pretty cosy for two, would have been a disaster sharing with a friend
Storage: Poor – I like to live out of my case and this was almost impossible as there was nowhere to leave it open. Hanging space was fine – for one.
Bed: No twin beds. I’d also read the beds could be hard, so I asked in advance and they offered a topper which worked like a charm. (No pea found though! 😉
Table: Small
Blackout curtains: Yes
Air con: Yes – good
View: The port – stunning. The same view as from the rooftop
Balcony: Yes – a highlight. Anti-mosquito candles, a hammock and a day bed.
Mirrors: Yes – plenty
Water in room: No, but there’s a filtered water system in the hotel with bottles to refill throughout your stay
Mini bar: Minimal
Kettle: No
Coffee machine: Yes
Any extras?: So many unexpected treats. Reef-safe sunscreen, postcards you write and they send back home for you, plus items to borrow during your stay including a water bottle, beach bag, beach towel and Bluetooth speaker
🛁 Bathroom
Style: Small, very small, but modern
Shower pressure: Good
Hairdryer Effectiveness: Brilliant
Shampoo & conditioner: Yes
Bathrobe: Yes
🏨 Hotel Logistics & Practical Info
Distance from airport: 40 minutes by taxi – we used the taxi rank as our pre-booked one didn’t turn up and it wasn’t over priced as led to believe.
Location: Just a short uphill walk from the port (note the uphill – map)
Getting around: On foot to the port, where there’s the tram to Sóller and the famous wooden train to Palma. There’s also a bus. Car hire is popular, but Sóller has restrictions as of 2025. Taxis are notoriously slow and scarce, especially evenings and weekends
Hotel size: 114 rooms – substantial size
Communication prior to arrival: Excellent
Welcome drink: None but our flight was delayed and arrived at the end of dinner service but they kept our table and the kitchen open for us!
Local supermarket: In the port
Staff: Really kind but clearly overworked and understaffed, so service was unfortunately slow
🏋🏼♀️ Workout, Rest and Play
Gym: On the rooftop – impossibly hot in peak summer and limited equipment. They also rent e-bikes and bikes for free. Rooftop yoga is offered, and there are yoga retreats off-season
Spa: Yes
Pool: Yes – with a flower-power symbol on the floor. Gets very busy with little shade. Despite signs saying sunbeds can’t be reserved, everyone does by 8am
Beach: No, but a short walk to the busy port beaches
🍽️ Restaurant & Bar
Breakfast: On the rooftop. The highlight! If you like eggs, you’ll love the variety on offer (with plenty of other options too)
Bubbles at breakfast: No
Bar / restaurant: The pool bar menu is limited, lacking salads, and service is very slow. I ended up eating lunch in the port more than at the hotel, which comes with the risk of losing your sunbed. However Neni rooftop restaurant for dinner and its adjacent Donkey Bar makes up for this.
🥂 Rooftop
Size: Good
View: Over the port
Bar: Yes – The Donkey Bar embodies the colourful 60’s hippie side of the hotel with those incredible views and cocktails. It is shamefully very quiet and closes at midnight.
Restaurant: Yes – NENI restaurant shares the views but only opens for breakfast and dinner, with last orders at 10.30pm. Balagan style food is served but for the setting alone I would be happy with a boiled egg! Though I realise not everyone is like me! I am not a foodie and the consensus was good but not great from friends.
Pool: No (it is downstairs, though as the hotel is on a hill it feels like a rooftop pool)
Shade: Yes – almost fully shaded
Best for: Couples, friends, families

💰 Cost & Value
Price paid: Slightly over budget, but with a small birthday discount
Worth the money?: Yes, for a special occasion
Would I stay again?: Yes, if it were cheaper. The lack of twin beds rules it out for fun or R&R girls’ trips
✍️ Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel Port de Sóller Review Summary
The first thing to note this hotel isn’t on an island or way up in mountains! Though it does feel like it! And there are two in Mallorca so ensure you are booking the right one! I first came to Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel a few years ago for a friends birthday rooftop dinner and immediately knew it was somewhere I wanted to return to and stay. Honestly – because the rooftop restaurant is where breakfast is served and I couldn’t think of anywhere more magical to wake up to in Mallorca.
Fast forward to one of my big birthday trips (yes there were multiple!) that needed more R&R – rest on the rooftop rather than the rooftop revelling! It felt like the perfect time to come back. It was everything I remembered and more — but there are also some important caveats that could be deal breakers for some.
Rooms are small, all doubles only, and bathrooms are very compact. The pool area is over-subscribed, with very little shade and slow service, which turns this hotel into more of a long-weekend switch-off retreat rather than somewhere you’d want to decamp for a full week. The sun bed saving meant I did miss out on a pool day, despite signs to say no reserving.
That said, the ethos and overall vibe of the hotel is beautifully laid back and chilled, inspired by the original hippie movement in San Francisco. I adore a description tucked away on their website:
“Made for those who value time, freedom and creativity, as well as a little luxury here and there – an individual place for individual people, the perfect spot to let go of everything and celebrate the joy of life.”
That sense of joy isn’t loud or performative – it’s woven into the thoughtful details, playful slogans, unexpected extras, and of course the rooftop bar and restaurant views. Those views really did, and still do, live rent-free in my head.
The fact my room had almost the same outlook could argue that the rooftop isn’t the sole reason to book but I remembered sitting there years ago for dinner, feeling genuinely envious that guests could simply wander up for breakfast. So yes, the rooftop is still the reason. Oh and if you want to wear a bikini at the Bikini Hotel. Obviously optional! But my birthday mission was very much accomplished. Hope this helps!

Hotel Rooftop Booking Tip
Some hotels close their rooftops for private events, seasonal schedules, or refurbishment. This isn’t always communicated to guests in advance. If the rooftop bar or pool or restaurant is vital for your stay, do contact the hotel to confirm opening times during your potential stay.

Would I stay again? Yes — if I needed a hotel in this area, and especially as the whole hotel is now adults-only, not just the rooftop
✍️ HM Ayron Park Hotel Review Summary
This hotel felt a bit like the TARDIS – how are there are so many pools. Five when I stayed, and it’s expanded even more since and now fully adults-only – a smart move that really suits the space and the calming vibe.
From plenty of pools to swinging the day away in egg chairs you can genuinely get stuck in (true story) to gorgeous gardens immaculately kept, that makes the hotel feel like a secret escape. But step outside and you’re straight into an area many people actively avoid. Playa de Palma is known for its German and Dutch party scene, and parts can feel loud, tacky, and very holiday-chaos-coded. So it’s worth factoring in that this isn’t a resort-style hotel: there’s only one restaurant onsite, so you’ll likely be eating out a lot. That said, I chose this area for the stunning rooftops restaurants within walking distance.
As for the rooftop itself – yes, there are two pools and a bar, but is it the reason to book this hotel? For me, no. I enjoyed it, and it worked perfectly for this trip. But they have missed a trick with both pools lacking the glamour of being infinity pools . They are more for cooling off and posing than proper swimming (which can be found downstairs). One big win was, with so many pools across the hotel, getting a sunbed was never an issue – even on the rooftop. the bar has relaxed beach vibes but lacks atmosphere.
Would I stay again? Yes — but only if I needed a hotel in this area but not for the rooftop which feels more like a nice addition, not the draw. Where this hotel wins is consistency: excellent service, a calm adults-only environment, great breakfast, and plenty of pool space. So dive in if you feel if suits your needs!
