Rooftop Bars & Pools in Dubai: What You Need to Know Before You Go

Rooftop bars, restaurants and pools hit differently in Dubai. From skyscraper skylines to sunsets sinking into the sea. Celebrations with crafted cocktails to clinking glasses against the iconic Burj Khalifa. Dubai is a must destination for rooftop addicts! As someone who has sipped at hundreds of rooftop bars round the world, I love when a city’s rooftops can still take my breath away. This city was practically designed for rooftop lovers, so it’s no surprise that these sky-high spots feel otherworldly.

If you’re here for the full list of my favourite Dubai rooftop bars and restaurants, you’ll find them in the dedicated guide. If it’s infinity pools you’re chasing, I’ve also rounded up the best rooftop pools in Dubai and trust me, they deserve their own page. They are the gift that really gives in this city.

But before you go rooftop-hopping, here’s your full guide to how Dubai’s sky-high scene works, what makes it different, and all the insider tips you need to know.

The Heat in Dubai Means More Air-Con, Less Alfresco in Summer

Choose your rooftop adventures wisely – Dubai’s weather can be deceiving. I’ve visited in March and April, when days were balmy and nights blissful. But by April 2025, temperatures were already hitting 39°C, and peak summer can climb above 50°C! So how do Dubai rooftop bars handle that sweltering heat? They do the opposite of what you might expect: terraces close, and indoor spaces blast the air-con. Alfresco lovers, I feel your pain! For the best rooftop bar experience in Dubai, I recommend visiting in spring or autumn, when the weather is perfect for sipping cocktails while soaking in those iconic skyline views.

Location, Location, Location for your Rooftop View!

Just like choosing accommodation, picking a rooftop in Dubai is all about the view. Most rooftops fall into three main areas, each offering a very different skyline experience: Starting with Downtown Dubai and sweeping city skyline views (hello, Burj Khalifa vibes at every corner). However, these rooftops aren’t always easy to pop into for a quick visit or hop between. I was caught out trying to rooftop round walking between them – it was precarious and on highways! Uber will be your friend.

My favourite area to stay is the Dubai Marina as you can walk straight out and be by rooftop bars and restaurants and back onto the beach. And then there is the famous Palm Jumeirah, where rooftops serve up boujee at its best, with some of the best rooftop pools in the world. Which I have a had to dedicate a whole other page to as they are other worldly, they are the main attraction.

Drinking age is 21 in Dubai – Bring ID!

Like in the home of the rooftop bar, the USA, Dubai also has strict rules: if you’re under 21, rooftop bar hopping is not for you. Even if you don’t look under 21, bring ID the law is enforced, and this is not a country to take chances in. For context, I always carry mine even though I’m technically 21 x 2 plus! (Though my rooftop age is 35 😉).

The Sun Sets Early in Dubai – Plan Your Rooftop Timing

Dubai’s earliest sunset is in December, around 17:30, while the latest is roughly 20:00 in summer. If you’re used to European-style rooftop dinners with sunsets, you’ll need to adjust — either enjoy drinks at sunset or start your evening earlier. Even having lived in Australia, which has similar sunset timings, I still found it a surprise! I’ve rounded up plenty of rooftops perfect for sunset sipping, so you won’t miss a single skyline moment if you plan accordingly.

Dubai: The real city that never sleeps!

They say NYC is the city that never sleeps but Dubai isn’t far behind with most rooftop bars open until 3/4 even in the week! So rooftop night owls this is your mecca!

It is All About the Weekends in Dubai

Dubai is just as much a working city as it is a holiday destination, so the nightlife peaks on the weekend. For the best rooftop parties, head out on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Bottomless brunches here are supersized experiences, rooftop pool parties rival Ibiza, and beach clubs keep the DJs and dancing going. There are also plenty of chill and family-friendly rooftops, so everyone can enjoy the skyline vibes. (You can see why so many people move here!)

How to Rooftop on a Budget in Dubai

Dubai is known for being boujee and spenny but it doesn’t have to be is you are prepared to put yourself out there or do some serious homework. First up the homework. My big recommendation is to follow the rooftop bars, pools even beach clubs you’re eyeing up on socials as they regularly post promotions, discounts, and ladies’ nights! Yes, some nights ladies get in free and some even tempt you with free drinks all night long or half price food. Wild, I know!! Some are listed on their websites and there are also some great accounts that do round ups.

Second is you can join based on your insta profile – I didn’t do this but a 21 year old friend did. Much like social media influencers with big accounts you sign up and if accepted can get ‘free’ meals etc in exchange for posts, stories etc. La Dolce Vita is one my friend tried, where she didnt not need a following – she is gorgeous though. Another is Secret Society which is more for content creators.

So while Dubai can be an expensive city to rooftop in, with a little planning, it could turn into the cheapest night out with the best views you’ve ever had! So now you just need to choose where you are going!

The Rooftop Competition is Fierce!

With a man made city and rooftops tailored to perfection choosing where you are going to be a tricky choice! Especially if only here a short time. But that is where I am here to help. Reviews alone won’t always help, because the standard is consistently amazing. While we’re not allowed to publish bad reviews, we can be constructive. All of my reviews are authentic and unpaid, so you can trust them to help you find the rooftop that’s perfect for you.
