The champagne capital of Reims feels made for rooftop bars, the perfect place to sip a glass (or a bottle) of bubbly while soaking up those French summer evenings. But surprisingly, this charming little city has only three rooftop bars and restaurants. Of course I have tried and tested, the rooftops as well as the champagne! Rooftop review roundup: Restaurant Gabrielle Toit Terrasse is the perfect date-night rooftop restaurant in Reims (and no, there’s no connection to Gabrielle from Emily in Paris!). The restaurant is mostly covered, with a terrace that runs along the side, so be sure to request whether you’d like to sit inside or outside. Naturally, I chose to sit outdoors; it was July, a gorgeous summer evening, and an easy choice!
The service was attentive, thoughtful, and knowledgeable, especially, as you’d expect, when it came to the champagne to start. Located beside the magnificent Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims (or Reims Cathedral, as it’s known in English), this rooftop is a popular spot, so it’s best to book ahead. The views of the cathedral are actually best from inside, and the terrace feels more like an alfresco rooftop than one with sweeping views across Reims. I was dining with one of my favourite foodie friends, so I can confidently say the food was excellent and the wines perfectly paired (a little break from champagne was welcome, ha!). All in all, Restaurant Gabrielle Toit Terrasse rooftop restaurant is a must-visit if you’re staying in the Champagne region.

Rooftop review roundup: The Radisson’s rooftop is a perfect little spot for hotel guests to enjoy a nightcap or their first glass of champagne. While the terrace is cute, I wouldn’t recommend it as a destination in its own right. The views overlook industrial land, and the space has a distinctly corporate vibe, which makes sense, as this hotel caters to a lot of business getaways. Rooftop review roundup: I had one night to decide on which rooftop dinner I wanted and this nearly won but I am now glad it didn’t. Located right in the city centre, this rooftop bar would be ideal for a pre-dinner glass of champagne, but I didn’t follow my own advice and book ahead! When I arrived, ever hopeful especially as there were plenty of empty tables and we only needed half an hour, I was told they were fully booked. (In that friendly French manner I know well from my time living in Paris.) In fairness they did offer a table inside, but I declined as it was the rooftop view I’d come for! Though noted that there are only a few high tables that actually have the views, so if you visit, definitely book ahead and request one of those.
