Hotel with a Rooftop in Tokyo, Japan

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi Review

Hotels with a rooftop in Tokyo aren’t as common as you’d expect from a major city, so having one at the Four Seasons Otemachi felt like an extra treat. I stayed here twice but would I return for the rooftop bar alone? When it’s the Four Seasons, expectations are naturally high. Does it live up to the luxury reputation, and is the rooftop actually a reason to book?

Four Seasons Rooftop Tokyo PIGNETO

Quick verdict

Best for: Being the Four Seasons!
Not ideal if: You prefer a more homely hotel feel
Rooftop value: Good
Who this hotel is for: Luxury lovers
Overall feel: A little corporate due to the height of the building, but with all the usual luxury the Four Seasons brings

🛏 Room Details

Type: Superior Double
Size: Huge, like a giant bedsit
Storage: So much
Bed: The best beds – slightly softer than their older style, which made them even better though I miss the height of the old ones
Table: Yes
Blackout curtains: Yes
Air con: Yes
View: The city from dizzy heights
Balcony: No
Water in room: Yes. 6 bottles daily
Kettle: Yes
Coffee machine: Yes
Mini bar: Yes
Any extras?: Mochi bites and fruit, plus $100 credit for minibar or in-room dining. Thoughtful touches like a glasses cloth left under my reading glasses.

🛁 Bathroom

Style: Modern and huge. The shower room with bath and two showers, double sinks and a separate classic Japanese toilet – of the highest standard.
Shower pressure: Amazing
Hairdryer effectiveness: Salon standard

Bathrobe: Yes

🏨 Hotel Logistics & Practical Info

Distance from airport: Around 20–30 minutes by taxi
Location: Financial district of Tokyo – next to the Imperial Gardens
Getting around: Walkable to the station and easy for taxis but did feel a bit out of the way. Though it is right by the Otemachi station
Hotel size: Feels big – top 6 floors of the Otemachi One Tower
Communication prior to arrival: Not great as I tried to get information about opening times of the rooftop and finally received a reply several days in! On my second stay I received an online check-in email and digital key, which would have been helpful the first time
Welcome drink: Tea
Local supermarket: No
Staff: Friendly, kind and helpful especially after I had a tumble, they gifted me an ice pack bag for the flight

🏋🏼‍♀️ Workout, Rest and Play

Gym: Yes – with views
Spa: Yes
Pool: Yes – with views
Beach: No

🍽️ Restaurant & Bar

Breakfast: Great selection. I had mine in my room at no extra charge (still thinking about the gluten-free rice bread), and it arrived exactly on time, to the minute every day!
Bubbles at breakfast: No
Bar: Yes. The lounge bar on the top floor felt a bit transient rather than a destination. I later discovered another bar VIRTÙ but didn’t use as was too late which is a shame as heard great things about it. So don’t make my mistake!
Restaurant: Yes but didn’t use

🥂 RooftopPIGNETO

Size: Medium
View: Over the city, though slightly tricky for photos due to the required glass
Bar: Yes
Pool: No
Shade: Yes
Best for: Breakfast for guests, sunset and dinner for all

💰 Cost & Value

Cost: I don’t know – this was a personal treat (not work)
Worth the money?: If you value exceptional comfort, especially the beds, then yes
Would I stay again?: If I could afford it effortlessly, yes though I’d also consider somewhere with a more walk-out into the city and a homely feel. That’s the trade-off with vertical hotels.

✍️ Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi Review

A hotel room with city views, a rooftop, and being the Four Seasons – what more could I ask for? The rooms are incredible, the bed is exactly what I dream of from the few previous previous Four Seasons stays, and the staff are genuinely helpful. But of course, even Four Seasons isn’t perfect.

There were a few snags. Reception is on the top floor, which is fine, but there are two separate sets of lifts. One for the rooms and one for outside access. You can’t access a floor you’re not staying on, which is reassuringly secure, but the downside is when travelling with others on different floors. You can’t just pop between rooms. It also feels a bit disorienting at first, going up in one lift only to walk across and go down again in another to exit. The lack of bins stood out. It’s something I’ve noticed across Japan and there is good reason in the city. But in a hotel room just feels impractical, both as a guest and, I’d imagine, for housekeeping.

Two small but slightly frustrating detail (really being picky now!): the hairdryer is put away neatly every day, along with my GHD straighteners. A kind gesture, but not that helpful when you have to unpack it all again every morning. The in-room iPad ordering system is great in theory, but on my first stay it didn’t work and was never fixed. I was able to call the ‘old fashioned’ way if I needed anything and the service was impeccable so felt a bit of a gimmick.

As for the rooftop, PIGNETO is a lovely addition to this luxury hotel. Tokyo isn’t known for rooftop restaurants, or hotels with them on, so having one here really does add value. That said, I wouldn’t book this hotel for the rooftop alone. The weather can be pretty unpredictable in Japan. It is a narrow window between winter, spring rain, and summer humidity so it’s not always something you can fully enjoy or rely on (as I discovered when it rained for 3 of our days!)

Overall, this is exactly what you’d expect from the Four Seasons: exceptional comfort, standout service, and a room you won’t want to leave. The rooftop is a bonus rather than the reason to book, but if you’re after a luxury base in Tokyo with that added extra, it still delivers.
