The Best Rooftop Bars & Restaurants in Malta

With its warm climate and sunshine filled days Malta is made for rooftop lovers and makes a brilliant year-round escape. No wonder I was back for more recently! From historic buildings in Valletta to sleek new hotels in St Julian’s, this island is best enjoyed from above cocktail in hand, of course! So find 14 of the best rooftop bars: whether you’re here to party by the pool (then I have another page for those!), watch the sunset over the city, or discover Malta’s highest new rooftop (opened summer 2025), you’ll find the perfect spot to suit your mood in Malta. And I’ve thrown in a little bonus which stole my heart. Evviva!

Best Rooftop Bars in St Julian’s, Malta

The party capital of Malta, St Julian’s is a vibrant area full of tourists and a younger crowd and home to the highest rooftop bar on the island and the recently opened Radio Rooftop.

Rooftop review roundup: I was staying at the ME Malta hotel and, as a big fan of their brand and Radio Rooftop locations having visited many of them, I was excited to see this one. This is by far the highest, set on the 20th floor of Mercury Tower, making it one of the most spectacular rooftops in Malta. On my first night, we were ‘squeezed’ in for dinner, but on arrival, we found it was pretty quiet, the same for sunset drinks on our last night. It was September, and as a new addition to the Maltese skyline I don’t feel it has gained the traction yet. I imagine next summer it will pick up, as the 360° views over Valletta and the sea are stunning, and the sunsets are unforgettable. Sushi was sushi-ing and perfect for a late-night dinner after just landing. Overall I was impressed.

Rooftop review roundup: Welcome to the highest rooftop in Malta! Anima has risen up and stolen the rooftop crown. This is a boujee, brilliant spot for a fabulous dinner, drinks with friends, or a little unplanned craziness which it’s already renowned for.

Split over two levels, the main rooftop features a large restaurant, bar, and pool, while one level up offers a cosy, intimate space perfect for date nights or simply enjoying unparalleled views of the skyline. I had booked for drinks but asked if the kitchen was still open, and the staff were kind enough to accommodate us. Poolside table, views for miles, and fabulous food, the vibe was buzzing and I wasn’t disappointed. I had sky high hopes, and Anima truly delivered.

Rooftop review roundup: I visited Infinity Hugo’s Bar on a weeknight in September, and it was surprisingly quiet, even though the other bars in the area were still busy. I concluded that the height and location meant this isn’t a bar many would just pop into if they didn’t know it existed. Walking out of the elevator, though, it’s definitely worth popping up for! Smaller than I expected and sitting adjacent to the pool, the bar did lack the fun St Julians atmosphere, but it was the end of the season and there were no events. For a romantic spot off-season, this bar is ideal in all weathers. If you’re after a party vibe, it’s best enjoyed in the summer months, when the rooftop and pool area come alive

Rooftop review roundup: Only a floor up Rooftop Bar by Hugo’s is one of the more low-key rooftop bars in Malta for views, but it definitely brings the vibes. Not to be confused with its sky-high sister at H Hotel, this terrace sits above its downstairs bar and restaurant, with a decked rooftop perfect for sipping a drink and staring at the sky. Grab a pint and head up!

Rooftop review roundup: I attended a private party here and found myself wishing I was a guest at the hotel! The infinity pool was absolutely stunning, and the rooftop was even more gorgeous than expected (photos truly don’t do it justice). It’s a fantastic venue with a great vibe, although it’s frequently reserved for private events, so be sure to check if it’s open to the public. Overall, it’s a swanky and delightful spot I would definitely come back for dinner.

Valletta, Malta’s rooftop capital, with it’s golden dome making sunset here something very special. Rooftop review roundup: I had booked sunset drinks at The Avi after not getting a table at The Rooftop in Valletta — which was recommended a lot to me. But I was so happy this ended up being my golden hour spot! I was the first to arrive close to sunset and thought it might lack any vibe (classic end-of-season rooftop problems!), but the tunes were on point, the staff were some of the loveliest yet, and I had the best table for all the golden photos. The only slight downside is that the view of the dome is best from just one or two tables but honestly, it doesn’t matter. I loved it so much I suggested staying on for dinner as I couldn’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be that night. Highly recommend this underrated rooftop bar in Valletta for stunning sunset drinks and skyline views with vibes!

Rooftop review roundup: I stumbled across this new rooftop bar in Malta and instantly loved its relaxed vibe. Indigo is informal and welcoming, with happy hour cocktails and a great choice of seating — from sea-view tables to spots overlooking the golden dome. I arrived just after its evening opening and had my pick of the tables, but it wasn’t long before it filled up fast — we were soon the envy of others, having snapped up the best spot for all the sunset snaps!

The staff were friendly, prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere felt effortlessly chilled. As this rooftop is still new, I can see things evolving, perhaps bookings or opening times. But that view won’t so it’s definitely one to add to the island’s capital rooftop list.

Rooftop review roundup: I was excited about the rooftop bar at The Embassy Hotel, their photos looked incredible and whilst I wouldn’t be using the pool it added a touch of lux for the camera. However I was gutted I hadn’t been quick enough to nab a sunset reservation and told there was no shade at lunch. Instead booked for late afternoon drinks. But I did like the organisation and good communication – expectations managed! However, despite the incredible views, when I walked out there wasn’t that wow factor I had hoped for. It felt a little flat – which I feel was due to the layout. There is a large proportion of indoor space, and the pool dominates. It’s probably best enjoyed by hotel guests looking to soak up the sun from the terrace. The cocktails, on the other hand, were some of the best I had in Malta. The service was good and still makes for some great snaps!

Whether you’re after a stylish pit stop or a long, lazy lunch or dinner, this rooftop delivers timeless charm with a side of history.

Rooftop review roundup: This is a two in one rooftop! 360 Lounge is rooftop bar offering light bites, informal seating and cocktails. Tempt Asia is their signature restaurant where you need to prepare your palate for a tantalizing fusion of flavours of Asian cuisine at this rooftop restaurant. I am no foodie but I know a good view and as you dine al fresco on the rooftop terrace, you’ll be treated to sweeping panoramic views of Valletta’s iconic skyline, bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun as this is an evening only venue. Fabulous service – we were on a tight time limit for a very late flight home and they made sure we still had a wonderful experience. Do book to be outside as I would have been really disappointed to be indoors.

Rooftop review roundup:I popped into this mystical ‘Medusa’ rooftop with high hopes of carrying on the party we’d started at Café del Mar — but it was much quieter than expected. Still, it turned out to be the perfect wind-down spot, with crafted cocktails and a laid-back vibe to end the night calmly rather than fuel a crazy late one.

I’ve heard it’s much livelier earlier in the evening, so it’s definitely one to check out if you’re in the area. If nothing else, the giant Medusa head that dominates the rooftop is quite the sight!

Rooftop review roundup: A Rooftop in a Nightclub Village! Gianpula sounds like something out of a rooftop party dream but it’s real, and so is the rooftop! Open during the summer months, it’s famous for its rooftop pool parties that light up the Maltese nights.Sadly, I missed the pool party season, but I did make it there for an event in the main outdoor room that was like a mini Ushuaia of Ibiza fame – just no planes! I couldn’t resist sneaking upstairs for a peek at the view. Just one floor up, you can almost feel the echoes of parties past. Even if you’re not up for a summer splash, head there for the rooftop bar! More on the Gianpula Village vibe coming soon in my Malta travel guide!

Rooftop review roundup: Singita may be a new spiritual home! Sliding this one into the rooftop list even though you have to walk down a ton of steps (so yes, that means back up later!) rather than up. While it’s not technically on a rooftop, it’s elevated and offers beautiful views over the ocean, as good as any lower-level rooftop. The staff were kind, caring which also shines through on their socials. I was worried I would be disappointed and find it was Instagram vibes with no substance, but the opposite was true. The inspiring messages scattered around made me smile repeatedly.

The one flaw for a planner like me is you can’t reserve a table (sunbed yes, table no). And after the long walk down it would be very disapointing to find it was full with hours to wait. Thankfully, they have a super-efficient and surprisingly fast-moving QR queue system. You can choosefrom two queues – any table or sea-view spot. Naturally, I was waiting for the latter but a warning for fellow sun burners there’s nowhere really to wait and very little shade.

The adjacent public beach, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay (note: not the “miracle beach” as it is called as that is their Italian brand) was already packed, and their beach club area had just a few sunbeds. There are however cocktails to buy and can keep you cool inside out! ;). Unbelievably, after only about 25 minutes — at peak lunchtime on a Sunday public holiday — we nabbed one of the best tables right by the sea. I concluded that many diners were sunbakers and locals, keen to return to their spots after a feed, whereas we weren’t rushed as we polished off a few rosés and finally chose our lunch.

The menu was smaller than expected, but even with my gluten free needs, we were happily catered for. My top tip on a hot day is to take an electric fan for the toilets! No air con and no breeze — it was a sweat bucket. Though, it did have a message on the mirror to say, “Don’t worry, you look amazing!” Just as I feel this place is amazing, my only sadness was not being able to stay for their sunset spiritual ritual. But an afternoon sitting with the sea shimmering still left me feeling very lucky.
