Rooftop review roundup: When one of your best friends moves to Gloucester and the first rooftop bar in her city opens up, I was off to visit both! Super conveniently located on the Hotel Indigo (where I also stayed, read my hotel review) for commuters by Gloucester Station, this makes for a great meeting spot as I utilised it! However, it’s a bit outside the area most locals go out, so that could explain it being quite quiet on a Thursday night.
The indoor part of the rooftop bar is bright and airy and takes up a lot of the space. Weirdly, there was quite a lot of ‘dead’ space by the entrance. Maybe they were catering for standing room, but it added to the lack of a vibe. When I arrived it was actually raining – typical! But the floor-to-ceiling glass windows did help me to feel less enclosed. The main outdoor rooftop terrace, and reason I came, wraps round the bar and on a busy warm evening it will be hard to get a spot in the sunshine. I was lucky, the rain passed and I was treated to my favourite time of day – sunset. And from Crimson Spire Rooftop Bar, this was a treat.
The food was not. It was fairly average and even being warned the chicken would be dry by the staff, I should have listened! Service, however, was brilliant. Especially when I knocked over my wine (first one!). There is even an Uber station for those without the app, or maybe from overseas or with a dead battery!!
A little gem if you are in the area or fancy breaking up your journey to or from London.
