Gibraltar brings the weather of the Mediterranean, a unique giant rock and just two rooftop bars this 2026. But two is all you need for this small corner of the map! Imagine sipping champers against the backdrop of the iconic Rock of Gibraltar. To add to that you get to watch planes take off over the shimmering waters of the Strait of Gibraltar. Well you don’t have to imagine.

Rooftop review roundup: I love a twist on a rooftop, and this one definitely delivers. Perched on top of the Sunborn Yacht Hotel – a permanently docked, ship-themed hotel, this rooftop bar brings a unique setting. Overlooking the marina, the Rock and even Gibraltars runway, it’s a great spot for soaking up the sunshine with a strong cocktail in hand (and yes, the cocktails were very good). The atmosphere is relaxed and chilled during the day, then shifts to a slightly more dressed-up, pre-dinner drinks vibe as sunset approaches.
This rooftop space also doubles as the hotel’s rooftop pool which means the deck itself is compact but what it lacks in size it makes up for in views. That said, do book due to the limited space especially if you are not staying here. Unusually for me, I didn’t have dinner here despite its rooftop credentials. The weather wasn’t playing nice and the indoor aspect to the rooftop restaurant felt a little too much like a conference space. Even outside was very quiet and lacking atmosphere but I did visit out of season. That said, for rooftop drinks in Gibraltar with a view, it’s a must – especially at sunset. Rooftop review roundup: Technically this terrace isn’t a real rooftop, but I’m allowing it! Partly because Gibraltar has a limited number of rooftops and partly because it still ticks all the important boxes: sweeping views, a perfect sunset setting and that lovely feeling of being far removed from reality. Alfred Terrace is at the famous and slightly tired Rock Hotel. It was once something of a celebrity haunt, and there’s still a slightly nostalgic, old-school glamour to the place with a photo gallery of those who visited.
When I visited, the service had a definite Fawlty Towers vibe. This was a few years ago now, so I’m hopeful the waiter in question has since had some additional training! Although, I also hope he hasn’t as his character and charm added to the experience. I haven’t laughed so much.
I originally booked just for sunset drinks, but we were enjoying the entertainment, the views and the friendly team so much that we stayed on for dinner. The food, at the time (and it was during the rather tricky travel year of 2020), was fairly average but honestly, it was so affordable that I didn’t mind at all. If you’re looking for sunset drinks in Gibraltar in a relaxed, slightly retro feel, Alfred’s is still worth adding to your list.
