During my latest visit (2025), I discovered a whole new wave of boujee rooftop bars where bubbles flow freely and entertainment is just as essential as the view. Stark contrast to those rooftop cafes nestled in the labyrinthine streets of the ancient medina. These authentic hidden gems mix traditional Moroccan charm with a modern twist, offering a peaceful escape from the bustle below. Though most of these rooftops cafe’s and restaurants don’t have lifts, some are dry and smoking is widely allowed. Quite different to the usual rooftop adventures! But whether you’re after a laid-back vibe or a more upbeat experience, all of these rooftops allow you to soak in the vibrant sights and sounds of this magical corner of Africa.

Rooftop review roundup: This was the first rooftop I visited in Marrakech eight years ago, and their lamb tagine has been living rent free in my head ever since. So, I took the plunge and returned to see if I had imagined it! Did it live up to the memory? Almost. Did the venue? Absolutely! However, word has spread. You can no longer just wander in and nab the best table, or even reserve it. The queues are long, and the staff are busy, but it’s totally worth the wait and even more so to get a table with a view. The rooftop venue, though small, offers a charming ambiance, small stools with Berber cushions and the standard straw hats to shield you from the heat. It’s an absolute must for any visitor!

Rooftop review roundup: A rooftop restaurant where the kitchen is always open, no matter when you arrive. The menu blends Italian and Moroccan cuisine, and the drinks? Well, yes, of course I had a prosecco, in a gin glass! I’m not sure what kind of mix that was, but it worked for me! The rooftop wraps around in a U shape, with different areas offering varying seating. It’s a popular spot, so booking is recommended. We didn’t but managed to be squeezed in for a drink and, of course, pose for all the pictures! The staff were lovely and accommodating, and while the views might not be as spectacular as some other rooftops, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Rooftop review roundup: A rooftop restaurant with a remarkable history. Set above the first restaurant in the medina catering to foreigners, but also the first riad hotel in Marrakech medina. In contrast to the hotel and restaurant below, the rooftop is filled with vibrant blues and yellows, its colours inspired by the Majorelle Garden. And if this building was good enough for Winston Churchill, it’s certainly good enough for you! Sip on an Aladdin cocktail or, as Churchill put it, “First things first, get the champagne.”

Rooftop review roundup: The highest rooftop bar in the medina, this spot is definitely a vibe. We needed a Saturday night spot for our first evening that would be bustling and vibrant and I chose good! Throughout my trip, I kept hearing rave reviews about this place, so I was pleased to have experienced it for myself. We did show up without a reservation, which felt a bit risky, but somehow breezed right in. The only downside? Fast service was not on the menu that night. It was a bit of a shambles, super busy. It’s been ages since I’ve queued and been ignored at a bar. That said, I totally understood how overwhelmed they were. I imagine brunch here would be a much more civilized affair, and I’d love to come back for a daytime visit to soak in the views at a more relaxed pace. Despite the service I would highly recommend. top tip too, they are pretty active on insta should you need to ask how busy they are – which I had at 10pm!

Rooftop review roundup: Much like it’s sister rooftop Cafe des Epices, this is a popular rooftop spot in the medina, so booking is advisable. Traditional modern food and views for miles this is a great lunch stop a bit more up market feel to its sister. (My camera lens let me down here but highly recommend).

Rooftop review roundup: With daily happy hour afternoons and jazz evenings, this rooftop is a unique addition to the medina scene. Climb up away from the traditional world of Marrakech to a giant green treehouse. I loved the colourful wonderful thought and attention that had gone into the décor and detail. For a different rooftop experience, this first of kind for Marrakech design, is well worth a sangria or four – well it was happy hour!

Rooftop review roundup: I had been recommended this rooftop by pretty much everyone I know who has been to Marrakech and with nearly 150K followers on Instagram I knew it was instafamous. But would it live up to the hype with so many lesser known options around? Yes and no. It has the most stunning setting inside and out for the sunset. Without doubt worth a drink here as the sun sleeps for the day. However it was quite a hectic experience as the waiters fly around trying to serve the never ending turn over of guests. But they were really kind and squeezed us in for a drink, though we couldn’t stay for the actual sun set as smarter people had booked. If you love a sunset and a boujee atmosphere then this rooftop is a must for golden hour.

Rooftop review roundup: Low key compared to it’s neighbour this rooftop terrace was snug and understated. Known for it’s shows downstairs, I was able to walk in without a reservation and snag a front row seat to the stunning sunset. I was surprised that wine isn’t sold by the glass, but small bottle options are available and delicious. The cocktail prices weren’t as cheap as I’d expected either, but for a drink with this view, it was worth every penny.

Warm/dry weather only? Part covered

Rooftop review roundup: Set at the top of the Medina Heritage, which hosts art exhibitions, small conferences, yoga sessions, and a shop featuring local artists, this rooftop radiates an atmosphere of kindness. I arrived spontaneously, and was warmly welcomed. They were kind enough to squeeze us in for desert. (Would have been wine but it was dry!) With an M Rooftop style tiramisu to entice us. Unfortunately, it was gluten-based, so my friend had the honour of indulging. They were really sharp on food allergies and the quality of their ingredients and even grow their own fresh mint for your virgin mojito. There is a huge array of mocktails from a ‘Coco Colada to a ‘Rooftop Dream’ perfect for children and those who drink or like to drink dry! Traditional live music playing with a stunning view of the mosque made this a firm favourite. Plus, it’s one of the few spots with a hat that actually says “Rooftop” on it, how I didn’t sneak one home, I’ll never know!

Rooftop review roundup: Came for the sunset, stayed for dinner! This gorgeous rooftop restaurant spans two levels, with the highest offering those magical Marrakech views. The staff were incredibly kind, keeping us warm with heaters (it was February), mint tea, wine, and, of course, delicious tagine. It was a bit pricier than I’d expected when I went to pay downstairs and discovered they’re cash only. Thankfully, they were used to this, and a kind staff member escorted me out of the medina to the nearest ATM. It would’ve been helpful to know this up front but wouldn’t have changed whether we had stayed or not.

Warm/dry weather only? No it is covered but if it was lashing with rain then it wouldn’t work!

Rooftop review: For the cutest littlest rooftop which has had a facelift since my last visit. From the traditional terracotta colours to bright bold blue and yellows of Majorelle Garden it definitely stands out. On the cusp of the souks and Jemaa el-Fna it holds amazing views, traditional food and an intimate oasis from the mayhem below.

Rooftop review roundup: Opened only three months ago (November 2024) and nestled near the Four Seasons in a new part of the city, this rooftop ooozes lavish opulence. But it’s the food that truly steals the show. Bold flavours and delicate presentation, ensuring a memorable meal with every dish. And considering how much I loved the décor, that’s saying something! I rarely accept invites from rooftops, but I made an exception here. They reached out when it first opened and were genuinely interested in a real review and I won’t compromise on that. But no compromise was needed.

This was one of the best meals I had in Marrakech. Very different from the traditional tagines on rustic rooftops, this was a gourmet, five-star feast. And hands down, the best aubergine I’ve ever had. The rest of menu was equally amazing. Sadly being GF I couldn’t enjoy their famed AB Tuna Pizza but my friend reassures me it was delicious! My allergies and hers (nuts and a pescatarian) were catered for effortlessly. The ‘show me the roll sushi’ did not disappoint and shots at the end that came stunningly presented in a cloud of smoke! The only downside was how quiet it was for a Sunday night. The entire venue is practically begging to be the go-to summer spot for DJs, drinks, and indulgent dishes. Which am sure once the word is out it will be. Read more here.

Rooftop review roundup: This rooftop restaurant in Marrakech is open year-round, with a roof that slides open or closes depending on the weather. As it was winter, the roof was enclosed, but it turns out that a beautiful setting isn’t the main reason to visit this stunning rooftop. The real attraction here is the fun! The food was delicious on its own, but the true treat was the entertainment. Throughout the night, we were serenaded by men in traditional dress, enjoyed live music, and witnessed everything from belly dancing to modern tunes. The conga and waving of white napkins around the rooftop restaurant was pure, unbridled fun for all ages! It reminded me a little of Paros and the napkin party.

If you want to be at the heart of the action, be sure to request a central table. While this wasn’t a cheap night out, the food didn’t compromise for the vibe, making it an absolute must for anyone looking for a memorable experience in Marrakech.

Rooftop review roundup: Enter through the twinkling walkway, and you’ll immediately know you’re no longer in the medina. Welcome to a rooftop beach club with a laid-back garden vibe. Hanging egg chairs, comfy sofas, and a sundeck serving up sushi. With entertainment from African dancers or DJs, this is the place to celeb-spot and the perfect spot for posting your selfies, if boujee is your style. This is definitely a popular spot, especially at sunset which I had booked for but plans changed. It would be a stunning rooftop for the sun setting over this radiant red city. Also to note there will probably be queues to get in and out due to their being just one lift. But once you’re up there, it’s worth the wait but don’t be in a rush to leave, though you’ll want to stay longer anyway!

Rooftop review roundup: If you’re seeking a touch of holiday luxury away from the hustle and bustle of the traditional medina rooftops, Lola is the place to be. This fabulous rooftop bar exudes relaxed vibes with amazing 360 views and a stunning sunset to behold, it’s truly a captivating spot. I was here in March 2017 and February 2025 and maybe due to the season, it was a quiet – even on a Saturday night. Tended to be hotel guests for sunset or a pre /post dinner drinks. Which as a hotel guest (yes I stayed here – twice, more on that soon here) was ideal. But I am not sure I would have made the visit specially. And as a guest (and a BIG reason I booked) was the use of the pool. Even in February it was 24 degrees in the day and it was a welcome break from the bustle of souks. However, given its small size and only a 8 sun loungers, I can imagine it getting quite busy quickly during the summer months. Read more here.

Rooftop review roundup: The Ourika Valley River is littered with the most picturesque restaurants, colourful Berber cushions, and small tables, offering a very Japanese-style/picnic eating experience. I didn’t choose this restaurant, as it was part of our tour, and it would have been a hard choice, as they are all so beautiful. However, of all the restaurants, this one had a rooftop! Even in the middle of the valley, I found myself on the rooftop! However (and shockingly, I know), I would actually recommend the riverside dining over being on the roof, as it’s such a unique experience. When all the tourists turn up, it gets very busy, which, after your hike, could make you hangry so order fast when you arrive. The menu is limited but what was on offer exceeded my expectations.
