Barcelona is one of the best cities for rooftop bars offering a unique perspective of the city’s charm. With stunning views of iconic landmarks like the Sagrada Familia and Barcelona cathedral where else does cava or sangria taste so good! Unlike some cities most of Barcelona’s rooftop bars are on top of hotels with a section for non guests. This makes rooftoping much more accessible. If a rooftop pool in Barcelona is a must then you will love the fact most rooftops have them – though you will need to be a guest of the hotel. This unique setup makes Barcelona an incredible destination for rooftop adventures. And if you are making a trip to Sitges then don’t miss their rooftop bars either!

Rooftop review roundup: If you only visit one rooftop bar in Barcelona, make it this one. It offers unparalleled views of the Sagrada Familia. Set on top of a hotel, like most rooftop bars in Barcelona, guests have access but for the rest of us there is a system – due to its unique positioning and popularity. In the summer booking is just 7 days in advance, so set your alarm as those spots are snapped up. Winter seems to be better at about 2 weeks though it can vary. There is a small fee at €7 to book per person and there is a 48 hour cancellation policy. This is to ensure we turn up as the space isn’t wasted as they don’t over crowd it. This really impressed me as I have seen rooftops capitalise on making money rather than making sure it is a good experience. This extends to the cocktails too. My sangria was just €5 whereas an Apreol Spritz was €16 – more what I expected.
The only criticism and it is minor, was the toilet! One little hut tucked at the back of the rooftop (see photo). If you are self conscious or have a dodgy stomach could be tricky especially if there’s a queue! Otherwise a fabulous way to take in these magnificent views – just don’t confuse it with the rooftop L’Attic (below) with its spectacular views of Barcelona cathedral! Another must!

Rooftop review roundup: This is the rooftop bar for magical views of Barcelona Cathedral. Perched on top of the Hotel Lamaro, this rooftop offers an exclusive front and centre vista of this historic building. You can’t make a reservation and due to it’s popularity, and even in October, when I arrived just before it opened, a line was already forming! The hotel has a simple system to manage this well-organized and not a long wait at all. I heard the staff were rude but never experienced this.
Once you arrive on the terrace, you can choose your spot. If it’s sunny in summer, those prime spots can be brutal in the heat, so be sure to apply sunscreen. Even in October, I caught the sun while soaking in the sights. One downside to the tables is that those who choose the shade or arrive later may stand right over you while taking their photos. While this can be annoying, it’s also understandable, so choose your position wisely! I stayed for lunch which was good but it really is the view you are coming for.

Rooftop review roundup: One of my favourite rooftop bars in Barcelona, this gem offers stunning sea views instead of the usual sweeping city vistas. I visited just at the end of the season, but I’m already convinced to return in the summer for the DJs and vibrant party atmosphere! The terrace is spacious – though I imagine in the summer it becomes standing room only. The advantage of visiting in October was I was able to relax on their ridiculously comfy sofa chairs while sipping a crafted cocktail made just for me (perfect for my indecisive mood!). The location is also ideal for those heading to the clubs. The only downside? It’s summer only!

While it may not have the walk out wow factor of some other rooftop bars, it has shade and it’s more intimate setting makes this a secret escape for a quiet hangover day! Rooftop review roundup: Like many rooftop bars in Barcelona, this gem has a small area for non-guests to soak up the views and vibe. But for hotel guests, the real magic lies in the stunning rooftop pool! I swung by for breakfast, which ended up being a coffee as I couldn’t face more tapas yet! Be warned with the sun blazing and no shade in sight, go early or late. The view and location are epic though not with the usual sights of Barcelona, but a fantastic vantage point above the mayhem below!

Rooftop review roundup: Step into the 1920s at this refined rooftop bar and restaurant, perched above the equally elegant El Palace hotel. You’re in for a treat! The restaurant, beautifully designed, is centrally located but doesn’t offer views. Those are saved for the area near the pool, where you can sip cocktails and enjoy the sunset. The pièce de résistance is the rooftop on the rooftop—yes, there’s a special space above that boasts 360-degree views! This area transforms into a cinema each evening during the summer. It’s truly an enchanting rooftop, perfect for escaping the bustle of Barcelona.

Rooftop review roundup: This was one of my favourite rooftop bars in Barcelona. One side faces the sun, featuring cosy sofas and sunbeds for lounging, while the other side has charming tables and sofa chairs for everyone. Typically, the sunbeds are reserved for guests, but when it’s quiet, they’re flexible about where you settle. It’s the perfect oasis to read, snooze, or socialise with friends. They offer sustainable cocktails, and I highly recommend the Sparkling Summer, as I would this rooftop bar not just in the summer, but all year round!

Rooftop review roundup: Absolutely adored this cute rooftop terrace! Relaxing in the comfy basket chairs, thinking about dipping into the small pool (it was winter!) or lounging on the beds after a day of racing around Barcelona, this is pure bliss. Note, that the pool is for hotel guests. The staff was incredibly kind, shout-out to Drossy for making everything even better! Plus, I loved that it was open from 12pm all day and stayed open late, even in the winter. Definitely a big part of why I chose this as also my hotel. Click here for more on the hotel.

Rooftop review roundup: I first visited this place eight years ago after a heavy work night out, and I’ve dreamed of their paella ever since! The restaurant has undergone quite an expansion since then, which was much needed due to its popularity. If you’re coming at night, you’ll need to take a taxi, and I recommend booking one back or asking the restaurant to arrange it early, as we faced quite a wait after dinner. During the day, you can stroll from Las Ramblas in just 20 minutes, making it an ideal setting for a long, lazy lunch. While it’s not technically a rooftop, it’s perched atop a mountain with sensational views over Barcelona, so it definitely counts!

Warm/dry weather only? There is a bit of cover
Rooftop review roundup: I was staying at this hotel so had full use of the pool, bar and restaurant. To note, the pool was cold (it was October) but still swimmable and there wasn’t any shade with the sun beds! As a rooftop bar, the staff were friendly and fun but the space for non guests is small. It felt like the perfect rooftop bar for hotel guests pre dinner drinks or in the day if lazing by the pool rather than a destination if you weren’t staying here. (Which I would recommend, as it is a fabulous hotel – click to hear more about that.

However, it felt more like a hotel bar than a true destination, which is a bit of a shame given the fantastic views. The cocktails, while certainly drinkable, weren’t the best I’ve had.

Rooftop review roundup: Immerse yourself in the culture of the museum below before heading up for a fancy lunch at the rooftop terrace above the History Museum of Catalonia. Unfortunately, when I visited, the clouds had decided to join me, but the setting is still beautiful. I had come for lunch, but the restaurant offers a choice between an informal tapas option or a sit-down small menu—neither of which I was in the mood for. So, I opted for a coffee instead. Even with the cloudy skies, it was a warm and inviting experience.
