Pergola has gone East

King of the rooftop pop ups. Pergola is back with another floral feast for our Insta feeds. Cheers to that!

First started over at White City on the former BBC car park. (As an ex BBC employee this was brilliant … the amount of times I roamed that place late at night after crazy hour day looking for my car and then it’s transformed into one of London’s first pop up rooftops. Sadly it only stayed a few seasons due to licences but then came Paddington and Olympia.

Arguably Paddington (above) isn’t exactly a rooftop (if we are getting technical) but I forgave it and embraced the vibe and as it has levels technically the top one is a rooftop!!

But the demise of Olympia (above) did make me a little sad. It was perfect pre and post exhibitions being on the top of the Olympia car park but after the last lockdown it closed its stairwell, for now.

But not to leave us empty handed Pergola on the Wharf has popped up at Canary Wharf. Taken over some of the space up in the Cross Rail Roof Gardens it had its soft opening this weekend and it was a hangovers haven for some of us!

After you have walked through the rather instagrammable foliage arch, you are met by the previously furloughed and so friendly, kind staff feeling their way to post lockdown life.

The main part of this rooftop is indoors, with shared tables, high stools and many different areas for keeping us safe and our sences fed (as well as our bellies).

Naturally I ate outside as it’s not really a rooftop experience if I can’t feel that fresh UK breeze! Bird was our brilliant sever and brought all the bubbles and burger (naked) for us to feast on.

It’s a quieter vibe outside on the decking but which was by far preferable after our night previous! The end of the restaurant sits over looking the Thames and is almost like being on the back of a boat. The rest of the rooftop didn’t boast great views but inside the vibe made up for it.

Clearly this will be an after work and brunch magnet especially as we still aren’t able to jump easily on planes. So bravo to this group for stepping into this space so effortlessly.
